About Us
Severn Brae Estate
49 Back Creek Road, SEVERNLEA QLD 4380. Just off the New England Highway 6km south of Stanthorpe.
Severn Brae Estate is now also a Cheese Factory with Granite Belt Cheese Co established on site in 2008.
Severn Brae Estate was established in 1987. The initial Vineyard was planted in 1988 after site preparation and trellis installation. Primarily Chardonnay, Melot and Sangiovese was planted.
As Severn Brae Wines gained popularity the grapes were sourced from a range local vineyards.
As we also produce wines for other Wineries small parcels of various varieties are sometimes available. However we attempt to keep a regular range of light fruity White wines through dry Whites to softer Reds and big rich Red wines.
In 1992 we started experimenting with local orchard Honey and producing Mead and Liqueur Mead. These have become very popular and very well awarded in National Shows. The Liqueur Mead has been awarded Best Australian Sweet Mead ten years consecutively 2007 - 2017. Also our Liqueur Mead has been awarded Champion Mead of Show at the RNA Royal Qld Show seven times. More recently we have expanded our range of Mead to include Grumpy Old Bee (a Liqueur style Mead fortified with aged Brandy), Raspberry Mead (using an extract from fresh Raspberries) and Passione di Miele (a passionfruit honey Mead). Passione di Miele is fantastic served frozen or Cocktails like Passionfruit Margaritas or Passionate Cosmopolitans.
Around the same time we started making Liqueur Muscat and Port style wines. These had a great following and we changed the name of our port style wine around 2005 to Grumpy Old Bastard Liqueur.
In 1999 we started making Sparkling Wines and now have a good following for our Bella Severn Chardonnay/Pinot Noir. Traditional Methode with lees ageing and rich fruit depth of flavour.
In late 2019 a local grower offered us some Organic Lemons to experiment and produce Limoncello. The Limoncello has become very popular and is delicious after Dinner and served from the Freezer.
